First Flight drops football season opener, 29-22

In the opening game of the 2023 football season, the First Flight Nighthawks dropped a 29-22 road contest to Virginia Beach Catholic.

The Nighthawks surrendered a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and trailed 21-6 at the half before battling back to lead 22-21 late in the fourth. The Crusaders scored with 1:38 to take the win.

First Flight’s home opener in Kill Devil Hills will be on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. against Washington County (Plymouth).
