With only four seniors representing the Manteo High School varsity football team this season, the underclassmen are taking on bigger roles. While there are flashes of talent and teamwork, putting together a complete game has been a challenge so far. That was the case on Friday night, Aug. 25, in their home loss 34-0 loss to Norfolk Christian.

Manteo surrendered 28 points in the first half due to problems on both sides of the ball. To their credit, they responded in the second half with tougher defense and better offensive execution. With the loss, the team fell to 0-2 on the season.

As the team looks to improve, they’ll need to do so behind a strong running game lead by Finn Schultz (#7), Wyn Wheeler (#4), and Jaheem Banks (#28).  Manteo’s next game is 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at Gates.
