On Sept. 1, the Kill Devil Hills Police Department issued this release seeking the public’s help in locating Scott Harmon Johnson, who was identified earlier in the day as missing by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Kill Devil Hills Police Department is requesting the public’s help in an attempt to locate Scott Harmon Johnson. Mr. Johnson is a 46-year-old White male, 6’, 175 lbs., brown hair, blue eyes. He has a short, full beard. Photos of Mr. Johnson accompany this release.
Mr. Johnson is from Kill Devil Hills. He was first reported missing on Aug. 31. He was last seen at his residence on Aug. 22 at 8:00 a.m. His vehicle and boat trailer were located at the Wildlife Boat Access under the Washington Baum Bridge and were reportedly parked there at least a week and a half.
The last reported contact Mr. Johnson had with any family member was on Aug. 20. As part of the investigation and search, we are subpoenaing phone and social media records. A search of his residence and vehicle on Aug. 31st did not provide any clues as to his possible current whereabouts
Neighbors reported seeing Mr. Johnson hooking up his boat and trailer the morning of August 22nd and leaving his residence directly afterwards.
Mr. Johnson’s boat is a 23-foot Apollo with a yellow hull, North Carolina registration NC3523DB. Mr. Johnson was accompanied by his dog, a brown and white pit bull named Baxter.
At this time, foul play is not suspected.
The Department is requesting anyone with information about Mr. Johnson’s whereabouts or information about his plans for the morning of Aug. 22 to contact us at (252) 449-5337 and ask to speak with Det. M. Sudduth.
The search for Mr. Johnson now includes multiple agencies including the US Coast Guard and NC Wildlife Resource Commission.
