HIGH rip current risk at Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton and Ocracoke. Powerful rip currents along with large breaking waves present in the surf zone. Ocean swimming is not recommended. Obey RED Flags, stay out of the water!
MODERATE rip current risk at Frisco and Hatteras Village. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!
Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 5 pm today.

Ocean Rescue staffing is transitioning to off season levels. Many beaches that had lifeguard stands are now unguarded or covered by a roving patrol.
