On Sept. 3, at 6:59 p.m., the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a report of flames showing on the rear deck of a structure in the 200 block of West Atlantic St.
The fire was extinguished and damage was contained to the outside rear deck of the structure. There are no injuries reported. Everyone, including three dogs, got out of the structure safely. When the firefighters arrived on scene, they heard the smoke alarms sounding. Working smoke alarms are a critical part of fire safety.
Fire crews from Colington, Nags Head, along with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS were also on scene and assisted in the operation.
The Kill Devil Hills Fire Marshal is investigating to determine the fire’s origin.
