George Michael Turner of Moyock, NC, a hardworking man who dedicated his life to his family, peacefully passed away on September 5, 2023, at the age of 76. Born on December 18, 1946 in New Castle, IN, George was the son of Roy Turner and Annabelle Turner.

George’s work experience included serving as an Aviation Technician in the U.S. Navy. He had a strong sense of duty and took immense pride in his service to his country, becoming a member of VFW Post 392 Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach, VA, following his retirement.  George was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, always going above and beyond to ensure their well-being and happiness.

In his free time, George loved engaging in various activities. He always had a project going on and enjoyed immersing himself in tasks that kept him busy. Fishing, diving, and gardening, particularly tending to his beloved roses, brought him boundless joy and solace. He loved his family to no end.

He leaves behind a devoted and loving family, including his cherished wife of almost fifty-nine years, Marian Lavon Turner. Together they created a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and memories. He is also survived by his sons, Michael Turner, Sr. (Susan) of Franklin, VA and Mark L. Turner of Raleigh, NC; his daughter, Brandy Turner of Portsmouth, VA, and his brother, Freddy R. Turner (Sarah) of Spiceland, IN.

Additionally, George leaves behind five grandchildren; Steven, Michael Jr. (Stacie), Danielle, Mark Jr. (MJ), and Shane, as well as fourteen great-grandchildren. He treasured each moment spent with them and took immense pride in watching them grow and succeed.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Annabelle; a daughter, Marty A. Turner; and sisters, Sandra Willis and Sheila Lewis.

Services to honor and remember George will be held at Twiford Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor John Hunter.  The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following the service.  Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. As we bid farewell to this kind-hearted and dedicated man, let us remember the love he shared and the impact he had on our lives. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
