Manteo is accepting applications for the position of Town Planner
Serves as Department Head for the Town of Manteo Planning Department. Interprets and applies land use regulations. Prepares and/or reviews zoning ordinance amendments. Serves as staff to the Planning and Zoning Board, the Preservation and Architectural Review Committee (PARC), and the Board of Adjustment. Reviews site plans for compliance with all applicable Town ordinances, including the zoning ordinance, and coordinates plan review with other Town Departments. Responds to citizen inquiries, stakeholder requests, state and federal personnel, interagency staff, other local planning departments, and developers about land use matters and enforcement activities. Investigates nuisance complaints and violations, and initiates steps to correct violations of the Town ordinances. Performs plan review on all subdivisions. Prepares and administers grants relating to planning. Prepares and administers departmental budget. Coordinates disaster recovery efforts, including the performance of post disaster damage assessment. Conducts administration of floodplain management regulations, Community Rating System program and Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) mitigation grant programs. Supervises departmental staff. Required attendance of Planning and Zoning Board, Board of Commissioners, PARC, and Board of Adjustment meetings.
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Arts and/or Science Degree in urban or regional planning, geography, public administration, engineering, community development, or a related field. Experience in planning, preferably in a municipal setting. Supervisory experience is required. Valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing boards and commissions. North Carolina Zoning Official Certification and Certified Floodplain Manager or ability to secure certification within two years of hire.
Salary:
Starting salary for this position is $76,819.81. Applicants with preferred qualifications may start at a higher rate of pay. The Town of Manteo offers great benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, pension plan, 401(k) with 5% Town contribution, longevity pay, and more.
