Gilbert Edward Gray of Stumpy Point, NC, beloved husband, father, and brother, peacefully passed away on November 1, 2023, at his son’s home in Portsmouth, VA. A native of Stumpy Point, he was born on February 4, 1936, to the late Cattie Belle McKinney Gray and William Edward Gray. Gilbert was 87 years old at the time of his passing.
Throughout his life, Gilbert worked as a dedicated crane operator in the construction industry until his retirement. His commitment and expertise were admired by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Cattie Belle McKinney Gray and William Edward Gray; his loving wife, Norma Jean Duncan Gray; his daughter, Shelly Jean Gray Eckenroad; his son, James Edward Gray; and his brother, Jack Gray.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Gilbert Glenn Gray of Manns Harbor, NC, and William Edward Gray of Portsmouth, VA. He is also survived by his sisters, Martha Sue Gray of Wanchese, NC, and Katherine May Gray of Manteo, NC, as well as his brother, James E. Gray of Stumpy Point, NC.
In accordance with Gilbert’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time. However, both Gilbert and his wife, Norma Jean, will be inurned at the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Gilbert Edward Gray will be remembered for his dedication, hard work, and the love he had for his family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
