According to Manteo Police, a number of arrests have been made and charges brought in connection with an Aug. 10 fight and a shooting that sent one woman to the hospital.
The incident took place at on the 600 Block of Sir. Walter Raleigh St. and in a release, the Town was quick to characterize it as “an isolated incident” that does not pose a “threat to the general public.”
In a Sept. 11 interview with the Voice, Manteo Police Investigator Tony Corbin said the Aug. 10 incident was the result of “an internal family feud that has been going on for years and just boiled over that night.”
On Nov. 8, Corbin told the Voice that five juveniles have been charged with simple affray, a misdemeanor. In addition, Kerveon Billups, a Manteo resident, has been charged with going armed to the terror of the public and disorderly conduct, which Corbin also said were misdemeanors. In addition, Venina Spencer, also of Manteo, has been charged with disorderly conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, also misdemeanors.
Corbin stated that the next scheduled grand jury is set for Monday Nov. 27 for possible indictments. He could not comment on which charges were directly related to the shooting of the woman, who was subsequently released from the hospital.
