Constance Alberta Wirtz, age 92, of Corolla, NC, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Born on July 12, 1931, in Hawthorne, NJ, she lived a life filled with love, joy, and cherished moments.
Constance dedicated 25 years of her career to Eastman Kodak in New Jersey. Following her retirement, she found fulfillment working as a greeter at the Currituck Lighthouse for 15 years, where she warmly welcomed visitors with her infectious smile.
Outside of work, Constance indulged in various hobbies that brought her immense pleasure. She had a green thumb and found solace in gardening, creating beautiful landscapes that bloomed under her care. She also loved the friendly competition of bowling and the tranquility of the beach, where she enjoyed shell hunting and basking in the warm sun.
Constance was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Wirtz, daughter, Janette Petrie, and her parents, Mabel Royle and Howard Roughgarden. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her surviving family and friends.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeri Shortway (Richard); her grandchildren, Dana Porcelli, Lynn Shortway (Deana Ward), Jessica Shortway (Arek Czyz), and Leigh Shortway; and her great-grandchildren, Paige, Leah, Dylan, Rylee, Aria, Bria, and Nixon. Constance also had the joy of welcoming a great-great-grandchild, with another on the way. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Farrell, and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service held at this time. Constance’s memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known her, and her light will continue to shine in our hearts forever. May she rest in eternal peace.
