The First Flight High School women’s and men’s swim teams each won their first and second meets of the season this past week. On Wednesday at the YMCA pool in Nags Head the women’s scores were First Flight 117, Manteo 95 and Currituck 55; and the men’s scores were First Flight 108, Manteo 68 and Currituck 64.
In the women’s meet Manteo won two of three relays and the following swimmers placed first: Finnegan Davis (M) in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle; Meredith Gaskill (M) in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; Hayden Hall (FF) in the 50 freestyle; Allison Roper in the 100 freestyle; Cameron Piland in the 100 breaststroke; and Emma Frierdich (C) in the 200 individual medley.
On the men’s side, First Flight won two of the three relays and the following swimmers placed first: Cormac Davis (M) in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke; Ben Hanusik in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle; Merrick Shumaker in the 50 freestyle; Josh Mouser in the 100 butterfly; Dylan Hallac in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
On Friday at the Elizabeth City YMCA the women’s scores were First Flight 130, Perquimans 54, Currituck 49, John A. Holmes 31, and Camden 10; and on the men’s side: First Flight 121, Camden 58, Currituck 50, Perquimans 20, and John A. Holmes 46.
The First Flight women won all three relays and the men won two, with Currituck winning the third relay.
The following swimmers finished first in their events: Nellie Hall (FF) in the 100 and 200 freestyles; Catherine Howell (P) in the 200 individual medley and100 breaststroke; Hayden Hall (FF) in the 50 freestyle; Lana Walters (FF) in the 400 freestyle, Schuyler Wilson (FF) in the 100 butterfly; Kira Walters (FF) in the 100 backstroke; Jack Spivey (FF) in the 100 and 200 freestyles; Dylan Hallac (FF) in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; Merrick Shumaker (FF) in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly; and Josh Mouser (FF) in the 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle.
