Richard Warren Dimmig, November 8

By on November 20, 2023

Richard Warren Dimmig passed on November 8, 2023 after an 18 month battle with cancer.   He was born in Lansdale, PA on August 27, 1947, to Herbert Warren and Betty Walker Dimmig.   A Vietnam veteran, he served our country proudly in the United States Marine Corps.

Dicks career started after his return from Vietnam in Philadelphia, Pa working for Roger Penske at Penske Tire in 1968.  The company eventually moved to Reading Pa where Dick became President of Competition Tire East and Penske Racing Shocks.   During that time he was integral in starting Penske Racing Shocks.   He was rightfully proud of his career, and remained a lifelong racing fan.

Dick was a lifelong hunter and fisherman and a member of the North Penn Rifle and Pistol Club of Pennsylvania and the Outer Banks Gun Club of North Carolina.   He could call in a gobbler as well as anyone, perfecting his mouth turkey call to the chagrin of his family on extended car trips.   His trips to the hunting camp in Pennsylvania with his friends were something he looked forward to all year, and will surely be remembered with a lot of laughs.

After retiring to the Outer Banks, he spent many enjoyable hours fishing with friends and competing in tournaments with the team The Hotliners.

Skiing was one of his biggest passions.   His father took him skiing at Split Rock in the Poconos as a child and he never stopped.   The family took many memorable ski trips to Vermont, Utah, and Colorado.  His last 15 years were spent avidly skiing with the ‘over the hill gang’ at Mt. Bachelor in Bend , Oregon.  He became a powder hound, joyfully seeking out stashes with his friends.

He prioritized his family and friends and made sure they always knew how much he cared.  At first reluctant to adopt cell phone technology, he soon became the center of communication and photo sharing for all his family and friends.   He will be greatly missed on both the East and West coasts.

Dick is survived by his wife Glenna Holl Dimmig , children Jason Dimmig and wife Christy,  Janna Dimmig Schaedig and husband Alex,  his grandchildren Bodie Dimmig and Selam Dimmig and his three Dimmig brothers Tom, Denny, and Pete.

A celebration of life will be held in Oregon with skiing friends and at a future date in the Outerbanks of North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Dicks memory to American Cancer Society, Canine Partners for Life, Oregon Adaptive Sports or a local charity in the Outer Banks.

Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home Bend, Oregon is assisting the family with arrangements.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.Niswonger-Reynolds.com
