‘12 Bars of Christmas’ raises $28K for charity

By on January 12, 2024

The “12 Bars of Christmas” posted the news on its Facebook page on Jan. 12. The “12 Bars of Christmas” initiative, which brings yuletide cheer for a good cause, raised about $28,000 for charity.

The “12 Bars of Christmas” concept originated in 2019 when Lucky 12 owner Mark Ballog and Lucky 12’s team decided to completely re-theme their popular Nags Head restaurant and bar for December. Named “Jingle 12,” the restaurant was adorned with 1950s plastic lighted Santas, reindeer, vintage ceramic C9 lights, and classic Christmas memorabilia collected from across the country.

What began at Lucky 12 has since spread its cheer to other establishments on the Outer Banks. In 2022, Ballog convinced Mama Kwan’s Tiki Bar and Grill to become “Mama Klaus’s,” Bonzer Shack transformed into “The Broken Candy Cane,” and Goombays Grille and Raw Bar became “Goombrrs” for Christmas Island 2022. In 2023, the list of participating establishments grew to a dozen. Joining from across the Outer Banks, came the addition of Outer Banks Distilling (Deck the Hulls), Jolly Roger Restaurant (Holly Jolly Christmas), Jack Browns Beer and Burger Joint (Jack Frost’s), Two Roads Tavern (McCallister’s Corner), Poor Richard’s Sandwich Shop (Poor Rudolph’s), Blue Crab Tavern (Sandy Claws), The Brewing Station (Christmas Vacation Station), and Blue Water Grill (Aww Shucks). These venues offered holiday-themed food and drink selections along with special events like markets, contests, toy drives, brunches, and more.

Here is the “12 Bars of Christmas” post.

“Together with our community, the 12 Bars of Christmas raised over $28,000 for Outer Banks charities–$18,050 in passport donations alone and more than $10,000 from individual fundraising events hosted at the establishments. We are sincerely grateful to our patrons for making this possible and are super excited to do it all again next year. Tis’ the Season of giving!!!
