Dean King will present “John Muir, the Power of Nature, and the Foundation of the Nation’s Environmental Movement” at the College of the Albemarle Dare Campus on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Dean King, an award-winning author of ten nonfiction books, will be the honored speaker at the College of the Albemarle Dare Campus on Thursday, Feb. 15th at 6:00 pm. King will present “John Muir, the Power of Nature, and the Foundation of the Nation’s Environmental Movement.” Sharing slides, he’ll tell the story of the enduring gift that John Muir, in partnership with his dear friend and editor, Robert Underwood Johnson, gave to this nation.

Dean King relishes the adventures involved in making history come to life while at the same time diligently searching out the truth and turning up new historical detail. While researching his national bestseller SKELETONS ON THE ZAHARA, he crossed the Sahara on camels and in Land Rovers. He trekked the Long March trail in the Snowy Mountains of Western China while researching UNBOUND and was shot at in Appalachia while writing THE FEUD. For his most recent book, GUARDIANS OF THE VALLEY, Dean traveled to John Muir’s boyhood homes in Dunbar, Scotland, and rural Wisconsin and spent months roaming Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada.

An internationally known speaker, King has appeared on NPR’s Talk of the Nation, ABC’s World News Tonight, PBS’s American Experience, BBC Radio, Arte TV France/Germany, and at TEDx. This is a rare opportunity to hear from a distinguished speaker on one of the most pressing issues of our day: preserving our natural resources. The event is free and open to the public.
