In a week of basketball action in the Northeastern Coastal Conference, both the First Flight Nighthawks boys’ and girls’ varsity teams faced formidable challenges in the conference tournament semifinals.

The boys, riding an impressive 11-game winning streak, fell to Northeastern in a closely contested match on Feb. 21 by a score of 69-64. Despite the setback, Mason Dobie’s stellar 38-point performance and Burke Powers’ 20 points showcased the team’s offense. The Nighthawks finished the season at 16-10 with an impressive 12-2 conference record. They now prepare to host EE Smith in the first round of the state playoffs on Feb. 27 at 7 pm.

The Lady Nighthawks, with an 8-game winning streak of their own, faced Hertford County and fought to a tough loss on Feb. 21 by a final score of 52-41. Hailey Stanley’s six points and eight rebounds, along with Maddy Beatson’s ten points and eight steals, led the way for the team. Wrapping up the season at 17-4 and 11-3 in the conference, the team is set to host Triton on Feb. 27 at 7 pm in the state playoffs.
