The Manteo High School women’s soccer team, the defending 2A state champions, are seeded No. 2 in this year’s 2A State playoffs. And they claimed a resounding victory on Monday, May 13. Facing off against the 18th seed South Columbus, they delivered a 9-0 win. Junior standout Kenzie Flynn led the charge with a hat trick. With this victory, the Manteo women now prepare to host Southeast Alamance in the second round on Thursday, May 16th, at 5 p.m.

The other two Dare County teams did not fare as well. The First Flight High team entered the playoffs as the 20th seed in the 3A State tournament. However, their season ended on Monday, May 13 when they faced the 13th seed Lee County and fell in a 6-0 defeat. Cape Hatteras Secondary School, which was the 27th seed in the 1A State tournament, faced a formidable challenge against the 6th-seeded East Bladen, falling to a 9-0 defeat on May 13.
