The Lost Colony opened its 87tth season this year with Dare Nights on May 30 on May 31—and they proved to be a major success for two organizations fighting hunger and food insecurity in the region.

On Dare Nights, residents of Dare, Currituck, Hyde and Tyrrell counties could attend for free with the donation of three canned foods or non-perishable food items per person. The May 30 collections went to the Roanoke Island Food Pantry while the May 31 donations were earmarked for the Beach Food Pantry.

The results were announced and cheered on Facebook. Here’s the post from the Roanoke Island Food Pantry.

“Our hearts and shelves are full tonight! A huge thanks to our community for coming out to support our Pantry by supporting the LOST COLONY! We hope everyone enjoyed the Show! We collected 1,356 lbs. of food and quite honestly some of the best food we’ve ever collected so THANK YOU, LOST COLONY for including us as the recipients of the donations tonight and again; THANK YOU COMMUNITY for your generosity!”

Here is the post from the Beach Food Pantry.

“Phenomenal work tonight, The Lost Colony attendees!!! 2,445 lbs.! That’s the equivalent of ~2,038 meals! Your generosity has blown us away once again! We are so grateful for your care and concern for your neighbors. Thank you, again, Midgett Insurance Agency, for sponsoring; The Lost Colony for hosting; and all of the incredible hearts that showed up tonight bearing gifts!”
