Three stellar athletes from the First Flight Middle School Track & Field team have extended their regular season training to compete at the national level. The Adidas Outdoor Track & Field Middle School National Championship meet will be held Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16 in Greensboro, NC.

On Friday afternoon, Avery Thiessen will compete in the girls long jump championship. During the regular season, Thiessen broke the FFMS school record with a jump of 15’9”. She clinched the conference championship, setting a meet record of 15’5”. At Nationals, she hopes to place in the top 10 in the country, and she has a chance to medal by placing in the top 6.

Saturday morning, rising eighth grader Ella-Rae Reese will compete in the 400m race. Reese obliterated the past school record during the regular season with a time of 59.55 seconds. The old record, which had stood since 2011, was 4 seconds slower—an eternity in a sprint race. Reese placed first in both the 400m and 800m at the Albemarle Athletic Conference Championship.

Saturday afternoon, rising freshman Adlai Berryman will race the one mile. Berryman won the conference championship with a school and conference record breaking time of 4:51.71. His time beat the old school record by 12 seconds.

On Sunday morning, Avery Thiessen will return to run the 200m. In February, Thiessen placed 13th in the nation for middle school girls at the Adidas Indoor National Track & Field Championship. She holds the school and conference record in the 200m and won the conference championship race in May.

Berryman will finish out the meet Sunday afternoon racing in the 800m. His current best time of 2:12.97 set the school and conference record.

Good luck to all the First Flight Middle School Track and Field athletes.
