The North Carolina Highway Patrol has released this information on an accident in Manteo on the morning of June 10.

Just before 9 a.m., the Highway Patrol was notified of a multi-vehicle collision on US 64 near the Dunkin Donuts just outside of the Manteo City limits. A Ford Explorer was traveling on US 64 east (Southbound) towards the Midway Intersection. A Mazda CX-5 and a GMC Sierra were traveling north. The Ford Explorer drifted across the center turn lane and into the northbound lane, striking the Mazda and then the GMC.

All three vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane between the Dunkin Donuts store and the Silver Bonsai gallery.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, Robert Hill, Jr., age 65 of Georgetown, SC was pronounced deceased following the collision. Mr. Hill is believed to be a Dare Co. resident. The occupants of the Mazda were transported to The Outer Banks Hospital as a precaution. The GMC driver was not injured. The roadway was cleared at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Neither speed nor reckless driving appeared to be a factor in the collision. Responding agencies included the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department, Dare County EMS, Dare County Sheriff’s Office and the Highway Patrol.

I'm confused. That doesn't make sense.

KHer… I would offer a perspective that Mr. Hill was (a product) “of” Georgetown, SC (born, raised, lived, etc.) and had become a Dare County resident.

It’s a horrible end to a life. It is unclear if he was a resident of Dare County or Georgetown, SC. Sounds to me like the many out of state vehicles I see with owners that definitely live here (I see them out and about regularly) but maintain plates and a drivers licenses in another state. This means they are cheating NC Residents who have residence here, an NC license, NC auto insurance and pay NC property tax.
