Just a few days after two women were killed in a crash at Pirate’s Cove Marina, a man has been charged in a serious accident in that same area that sent the victim to Sentara General in Norfolk. The accident occurred around midnight this past Saturday night.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Mark Sullivan of Manteo has been charged with, among other things, Felony Hit and Run with Injury or Fatality after he struck a man from the rear with his Jeep on the Washington Baum Bridge and fled the scene.

The NC Highway Patrol says the victim, whose name has not been released, was pushing his bicycle in the middle of the right-hand lane when he was hit by Sullivan. After several hours of investigation, the suspect was located and admitted to striking the pedestrian and hiding the Jeep in the Colington area after the accident.

Aside from the hit and run charge, Sullivan was charged with Driving with a Revoked License and Failure to Reduce Speed to avoid hitting a pedestrian. He also has a pending DUI charge.
