The Sanderling Resort, the Outer Banks’ premier luxury retreat, has launched a new Community Impact Fund supporting six local nonprofits across Dare and Currituck counties.

The initiative is made possible through the guests of The Sanderling, who pay into the Impact Program, a year-round commitment that directly supports the community. The program focuses on advancing local causes in education, conservation, hunger relief, and holiday giving, ensuring that the resort’s success continues to benefit the wider Outer Banks region.

“We’re fortunate to work in a place where community truly means something,” said Janae Gier, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Sanderling Resort. “Whether it’s helping a teacher, supporting a student-athlete, or assisting a local family, this fund is our way of saying thank you to the Outer Banks—especially during the quieter months, when our neighbors need it most.”

The launch of the Community Impact Fund follows The Sanderling Resort’s 2025 transformation and recent recognition as Condé Nast Traveler’s No. 1 Resort in the South. Building on this momentum, the resort is deepening its year-round commitment to the Outer Banks by extending its hallmark hospitality beyond the guest experience—to uplift, invest in, and celebrate the people and organizations that sustain the coast

This Season’s Community Impact Fund Recipients:

North Carolina Coastal Federation—The partnership will officially launch at the community Green Drinks event, with funds supporting coastal preservation and restoration projects across the Outer Banks — including oyster reef development and living shoreline initiatives designed to protect local waters.

Beach Food Pantry—Dedicated to providing food assistance to Outer Banks families in need, the Beach Food Pantry will receive support to help meet increased seasonal demand.

Toys for Tots (Dare, Currituck & Camden Counties)—The resort’s annual Toys for Tots drive will conclude with a check presentation and donation pickup at the property, helping ensure every child in the tri-county region receives a gift this holiday season.

First Flight Nighthawk Athletic Club—The Sanderling Resort will present its donation during the December 12 home basketball game, supporting uniforms, equipment, and athletic programs for local student-athletes.

The Currituck Education Foundation’s funding will provide essential classroom materials and help expand teacher-led initiatives that enhance student learning experiences throughout Currituck County.

Dare Education Foundation—The resort’s contribution will strengthen classroom resources and support student enrichment programs across Dare County schools, empowering educators and inspiring future leaders.

Beyond direct funding, resort employees will actively volunteer their time throughout the year with partner organizations—participating in shoreline cleanups, local drives, and community outreach events that extend the impact of the fund well beyond financial support.

The Community Impact Fund builds on The Sanderling Resort’s long-standing commitment to community connection through both new and ongoing initiatives, including the Outer Banks Advantage Locals Discount Card for year-round Outer Banks residents and the annual First Responders Day, a fall celebration honoring the region’s dedicated police, fire, and EMS teams.
