Five Dare Towns formally approve their FY 2026-2027 General Fund budgets

Five Dare County Towns formerly approved their Fiscal Year 2026-27 General Fund budgets in a series of meetings held this week. The new fiscal year begins on July 1.

On Tuesday, June 2, the Southern Shores Town Council passed its budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027 of just under $13 million. The ad valorem tax rate remained unchanged at $0.1880, and there is a 3% cost-of-living (COLA) increase for Town employees. 12196

Three more municipalities passed budgets on Wednesday, June 3. The Manteo Board of Commissioners approved a $7.75 million plan, with an ad valorem tax rate of $0.2829 that represents a 3-cent increase. The budget includes a 5% COLA increase for Town staff. ClearGov Document – FY 26-27 Budget Book

The Town of Duck Council approved a budget of $13.7 million. The recommended ad valorem tax rate for 2026-2027 is $0.18, which is unchanged. The plan has budgeted 5% for a merit pool to fund merit pay increases for employees. Town of Duck

The Nags Head Board of Commissioners passed that Town’s 2026-27 budget of $35.7 million on June 3. The ad valorem tax rate remains unchanged, at $0.2320 and the spending plan includes a 3% COLA adjustment for Town staff. Recommended-Budget-FY-2026-2027

The Kill Devil Hills Commissioners next meet on June 8.  The next meeting of the Dare County Board of Commissioners is scheduled for June 9.
