Elizabeth “Betty” Wilson Clayton, age 95, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Beaufort County, NC. Betty was born to the late Elwood and Juanita Wilson on February 7, 1931.

A graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School in New Smyrna, Florida, Betty went on to build a fulfilling career as an Administrative Assistant, contributing her skills and dedication to Southeastern Regional Medical Center and Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold L. Clayton, with whom she shared sixty-one wonderful years of marriage with.

Together, Harold and Betty raised four children, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and love. Her nurturing spirit and steadfast support were the cornerstones of her family, and her legacy lives on through her children; Nita Clayton of Kitty Hawk, NC; Ann Nance (David) of Edenton, NC; Michael Clayton of New Bern, NC; and Steven Clayton (Teresa) of Rustburg, VA.

Betty also leaves behind her grandchildren; Jody Clayton of Virginia Beach, VA; Alex Clayton of Bellevue, WA; Elizabeth Clayton of Williamston, NC; Madison Nance of Raleigh, NC; and Sarah Clayton of Jamesville, NC, were the light of her life. Betty cherished every moment spent with them, offering wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love.

A long-time resident of Kitty Hawk, NC, Betty was known for her warm heart and generous spirit. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
