Dare County Board of Commissioners Community Meeting – Tuesday, August 18, 2026 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Fessenden Center, 46830 N.C. Hwy 12, Buxton. Dare County will host a community meeting to discuss communication and coordination related to imminent closures of N.C. Highway 12. The meeting follows the temporary closure of N.C. Highway 12 on July 24, 2026, when intense rainfall caused significant flooding that made portions of the roadway unsafe and impassable. Representatives from Dare County and NCDOT will review the circumstances surrounding closures of N.C. Highway 12 and discuss existing procedures for monitoring roadway conditions and communicating potential and active highway closures with the public. The discussion will also provide an opportunity to gather community feedback and explore ways to enhance communication before, during and after future weather-related closures of N.C. Highway 12. Currituck County Board of Commissioners – will hold a meeting sitting as the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) following the regular Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 6:00 PM or as soon thereafter as reached. The meeting will take place in the Historic Courthouse Board Meeting Room, 153 Courthouse Road, Currituck, NC, for the purpose of considering budget amendments. Click here for Agenda. N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission – Wednesday and Thursday, August 19-20 at the Doubletree by Hilton Raleigh Midtown, 2805 Highwoods Blvd., Raleigh, NC, 27604. The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed on YouTube.
NC Wildlife Virtual Public Meeting – Thursday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 25. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is accepting public comments through September 14, 2026, for the agency’s proposed 2027-28 hunting, fishing and game land regulation changes. Virtual public hearings on the proposed changes are scheduled for August 20 Pre-registration is required and August 25 Pre-registration is required. NCWRC reviews and adjusts seasons, bag limits, and land management regulations, as needed, to achieve conservation management goals, comply with statutory changes, and respond to constituent requests and suggestions. The public is encouraged to review and comment on the proposed rule changes.
