Talk Saves Lives Event to Provide Suicide Prevention Education and Resources

Dare County Department of Health & Human Services, in partnership with the Saving Lives Task Force Faith Committee, Breaking Through Task Force, Walk Against Addiction, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Injury and Violence Prevention Branch, will host Talk Saves Lives on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at St. Andrews by the Sea in Nags Head. Check-in will begin at 9:45 a.m., with the program beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. The event will conclude at 1:00 p.m.

The community event will provide participants with practical information and resources to increase awareness and understanding of suicide prevention and help individuals feel better prepared to recognize and respond when someone may be struggling.

About Talk Saves Lives
  • Talk Saves Lives will focus on suicide prevention education and provide participants with information they can use to support friends, family members, coworkers, and others in the community.
Participants will learn about: 
  • Suicide prevention and the importance of talking openly about mental health and suicide
  • Common warning signs and risk factors associated with suicide
  • How to recognize when someone may be at risk
  • Ways to start a conversation and support someone who may be struggling
  • Local resources and services available to individuals and families in Dare County

September is recognized nationally as Suicide Prevention Month, making the event an important opportunity to bring community members together to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and strengthen connections to support and resources.

Suicide prevention is a community effort. Knowing what signs to look for, being willing to have difficult conversations, and understanding where to turn for help can make a meaningful difference. Talk Saves Lives is designed to help community members build the knowledge and confidence needed to support those around them.
