At about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, the National Weather Service at Newport/Morehead City issued a Heat Advisory in effect for portions of Eastern North Carolina, including Mainland Dare County and Mainland Hyde counties, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2
Heat Index Values of up to 107 degrees are expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
