In a release issued on Friday, Sept. 4, the Currituck County Schools (CCS) said that the new state evaluations of NC public schools showed “continued strong and improved accountability and testing results for the 2025–2026 school year” in the district.
In a statement, Currituck Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Lutz said that, “Our district has much to celebrate, and I look forward to sharing data snapshots with our community that highlight the incredible hard work, dedication, and success of our students, teachers, and staff.”
Among the highlights cited by CCS
- The district’s four-year Graduation Cohort Rate increased from 93.5% last year to >95%, making it one of five statewide districts to report a graduate rate of more than 95%.
- Districtwide grade level proficiency reached 65.7%, an increase of 2.3 percentage points from the previous year and 10.5 percentage points over the last five years.
- All CCS schools earned performance grades of A, B, or C for the second year in row, and five CCS schools met or exceeded growth during the 2025-2026 school year. The grades are based on each school’s achievement score (80%) and academic growth (20%).
- The school to receive and A is J.P. Knapp Early College. Jarvisburg Elementary School and Knotts Island Elementary School each got a B. The schools that received a C are Central Elementary School, Currituck High School, Currituck Middle School, Moyock Elementary School, Moyock Middle School, WT Griggs Elementary School and Shawboro Elementary School.
- A school’s growth score is an indication of the progress students have made over the previous year. The new data show that J.P Knapp exceeded growth. Central Elementary, Knotts Island Elementary, Moyock Elementary and Moyock Middle schools met growth. The schools that did not meet growth are Currituck High, Currituck Middle, Jarvisburg Elementary, Shawboro Elementary and WT Griggs Elementary.
District leadership will also provide a full report and deeper analysis of accountability and testing data at the upcoming Currituck County Board of Education meeting on Sept. 17. I see three scores that are a C or higher. 73 used to be a C and the last I knew it was a 70. So you have a 71 and a 73 which are C’s. The 94 is an A with the remainder achieving D’s in the 60’s and an F for the 59.
