Citing work and family obligations, Manteo Commissioner Eddie Mann announced that he was leaving that position at the Sept. 2 board meeting.

First elected to the Manteo Board of Commissioners in 2017, Mann stated that “I do need to dedicate more time to my family with my new position.” He also praised a number of fellow commissioners and town staff in his remarks and also received a plaque honoring his service at the Sept. 2 meeting.

A statement issued by the Town of Manteo lauded Mann as “an anchor. Through challenges, opportunities, and countless decisions, he brought wisdom, perspective, and a steady hand that helped keep us grounded and focused on what mattered most: serving the people of Manteo.”

“While we are saddened by his decision to resign, we understand that it was not made lightly,” the statement continued. “We respect his choice and are grateful for every year, every meeting, every conversation, and every effort he devoted to making Manteo a better place.

According to Manteo Public Information Officer Jamie Whitley, Mann’s resignation was effective as of Sept. 2. She also told the Voice that the Board of Commissioners has not yet decided how they will fill the vacancy left by his exit. Mann’s term was set to expire in Dec. 2029.

There have been several high-profile resignations in Manteo in recent years. Manteo Mayor Sherry Wickstrom stepped down from that post in July 2025, citing “personal” reasons and “unexpected circumstances.” One month later, Town Manager and Town Planner Melissa Dickerson resigned, without citing a reason.
