Jeanne Carter Pace

Jeanne Carter Pace, age 94 of Manteo, North Carolina, passed peacefully of natural causes on September 10, 2026 in Columbia, NC. The only daughter of William Carter and Jacquelyn Neisz (both deceased), Jeanne was a cherished mother, grandmother and friend.

She grew up in Richmond, Virginia and in 1977 she moved to the Outer Banks.  First living and working in Nags Head, Jeanne eventually moved to Manteo in the mid 90’s.  With her life centered on God- Jeanne was a devoted member of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church. Jeanne was known for a brilliant smile and the ability to make anyone, new acquaintance or old, feel appreciated. She loved company of any kind and never missed the opportunity to be a gracious host. You would certainly count yourself lucky to be the recipient of her famous pound cake, pate’ or cranberry relish.

In addition to entertaining, Jeanne was a true lover of jazz music and appreciated all types of art. Her zest for life was boundless, and her numerous interests ranged from music, reading, cooking, painting, and gardening to traveling and politics. She was a lover of people which was only overshadowed by her love of dogs. Jeanne always welcomed a wet kiss or waggy tail to pet. She leaves behind a legacy of memories and her talents in the kitchen to each and every family member she cherished.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Bill Freed; her three sons Cliff Blakely (Margo), Carter Blakely, and Sean Pace.  Also surviving are five grandchildren; Josh Blakely, Aaron Blakely (Misty Hackworth), Maxwell Lingg, Triston Blakely, and Ryan Pace as well as her great- grandson, Arlo Blakely.

Jeanne’s memorial service will be held Friday, October 9, 2026 at 1 pm at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head, NC.  In lieu of flowers the family gratefully suggests memorial donations in Jeanne’s honor to the Outer Banks SPCA (https://www.obxspca.org/donate/) and/or to St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church.

Please share expressions of sympathy with the Pace family via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
