Jockey’s Ridge State Park is more than a landmark. It is a place that belongs to all of us – a place where people gather, memories are made, wildlife finds a home, and generations experience the unique natural beauty of the Outer Banks. Protecting a place this special takes a community that cares about its future.

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2 p.m., the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge will host the first annual Shuck For The Ridge Oyster Roast & Silent Auction at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. This community fundraiser will feature fresh local oysters from Cousins’ Oysters, BBQ, beverages, live music by Birddog, the Aw Shucks educational craft activity, a silent auction and an afternoon of fun with friends at the Ridge. Tickets are $80 per person, with proceeds supporting the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge and its efforts to protect and preserve Jockey’s Ridge State Park for future generations.

But Shuck For The Ridge is about more than oysters. It is about bringing people together to preserve a place worth protecting – just as the community did over 50 years ago when residents came together to save the dunes.

Proceeds from Shuck For The Ridge benefit the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting, protecting and promoting Jockey’s Ridge State Park through advocacy, education, stewardship and community engagement. The Friends help fund park improvements, visitor experiences, educational programs, environmental research, trail projects, events, further community partnerships and more.

“Shuck For The Ridge gives our community a chance to come together and help protect the unique landscape, wildlife and natural habitat that makes Jockey’s Ridge so special,” said Colette Mainardi, Executive Director of the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge. “With community support, we can continue to have a positive impact in protecting the park.”

Tickets are available for purchase through the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge website.
