The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Outer Banks Volunteer Week, taking place October 10-17, 2026. This initiative invites visitors, residents and second homeowners to connect more deeply with the community by volunteering with local organizations on a variety of projects and events.

Community pumpkin-carving event and family-friendly Halloween celebration — Friday, October 30, 2026
The Elizabethan Gardens invites the public to A Night of 1587 Pumpkins on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Inspired by the arrival of English colonists to Roanoke Island in 1587, the Gardens will attempt to light 1,587 jack-o’-lanterns along a glowing pumpkin path for an unforgettable autumn celebration.

For a generation of kids, the anticipation started with the billboards. "Passing through Currituck on the way to the Outer Banks, there were all those billboards for Waterfall Park," said Chris Schroeder, 39, who now lives in Toano, Virginia, but spent his childhood summers driving down to Kill Devil Hills with his family. "When I was a kid, I would beg my parents, ‘please take me, I wanna go.’"

For the second October in a row, the Duck Jazz Festival didn't go the way it was planned. But on Saturday, Oct. 10, with Hurricane Isaias pushing wind and rain into the forecast, the Town Green filled anyway—first with people seated on the grass, then, by the middle of Adam Hawley's set, with a crowd on its feet.

Update: Update: At 5:09 p.m. the National Weather Service reported that  Tornado Watch is CANCELLED for all of eastern NC. Hope everyone impacted by the severe weather earlier today is okay, and enjoy the rest of the day ENC!
