Release comes amid new report of Vibrio-related fatality in county
Amid reports of a possible second Dare County fatality resulting from infection with the Vibrio bacteria in the past two months, the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) released on Aug. 24 a “Recreational Water Illness Educational Video.” Full story

Multiple responders from Southern Shores to Roanoke Island helped battle a fire at a four-unit condo building in the Colington Pointe subdivision that began on the afternoon of Thursday Aug. 24. According to Lt. Andy Creech of the Dare County Sheriff’s Department, all residents of the building were safely evacuated and there were no significant injuries. Full story

Endurance Seafood owner Murray Bridges passed on Aug. 22

The Aug. 22 death of Murray Bridges, 89, the longtime owner of the Endurance Seafood Company on Colington Rd. may have been the result of a deadly Vibrio bacterial infection, according to an interview given by his daughter, Kristina “Kissy” Bridges. Full story

The latest Dare County Schools update on the emergency mold mitigation and air quality restoration at First Flight Elementary and Middle Schools, released on Aug. 22, says that both building have been cleared to re-open—with the exception two rooms. Full story
