Bicyclist injured after being struck by van in Corolla

A bicyclist from Pennsylvania was flown to a Norfolk hospital after she was hit by a van driven by a Virginia man on N.C. 12 in Corolla over the weekend.

The incident happened Sunday at 10:25 a.m. in the 700 block of Ocean Trail, when the taxi traveling northbound on N.C. 12 struck a 62-year-old woman who was riding with her husband in the same direction.

She was transported to the Corolla Fire and Rescue Station by Currituck EMS, and then flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by Dare Medflight. Officials there would not comment on her condition, citing medical privacy laws.

David Dorn, 64, of Newport News, Va., was cited by the N.C. Highway Patrol from failing to maintain lane control.
