BENEFIT FOR MANTEO RESIDENT SHANE MILES
Feb. 22: Outer Banks Running Club to host Shane’s Cupcake 5K

By on February 5, 2020

It’s time to break a sweat and enjoy some sweets, all in support of a great community partner.

Runners and walkers of all experience levels are encouraged to sign up for Shane’s Cupcake 5K set for Saturday, Feb. 22, at 9 a.m. at Aviation Park in Kill Devil Hills. Your $35 donation also includes entry to the post-run event at Outer Banks Brewing Station from 10 to noon, where you can enjoy a taco bar, specialty drinks, raffles and a DJ. (Those who don’t participate in the run can purchase a meal bracelet for $10.)

Proceeds from the event will benefit Manteo resident Shane Miles, an inspirational leader within the local running community who has been battling Stage IV colon cancer since December 2018. A former president of the Outer Banks Running Club, Shane started the Cupcake Run in 2012 and managed it for six years as a charity event to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

“An extrovert, he loves being around people, and running opened up a whole new group of people for him to befriend,” current OBRC president Jonathan Hope says about Shane.

Register for the race by visiting Shane’s Cupcake Run page on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/154419562671421/ Shirt and packet pickup will take place Friday, Feb. 21, from 4-6:30 p.m. at Aviation Park (across from FFHS) or Saturday morning from 8 to 8:45 a.m.
