The Town of Duck has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program was established in 1984 to help governments improve the quality of their budgets and make financial information more accessible to the public. To earn recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and excel as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.
“This is a significant accomplishment that reflects the hard work, collaboration and attention to detail that went into developing our budget,” said Town Manager Drew Havens. “This award demonstrates the Town’s commitment to sound financial management, transparency, and thoughtful planning. I also want to recognize the Town Council for the time and thoughtful consideration they invested throughout the budget process, as well as the many staff members and others who contributed to developing the budget. Everyone involved should be proud of this accomplishment.”
As part of the award process, the Town’s budget document was reviewed by a panel of local government budget professionals and evaluated across 25 major criteria categories, including 85 individual questions and evaluation points. With this recognition, the Town of Duck joins approximately 75 North Carolina cities, towns, counties and school districts that have earned the award.
GFOA is a professional association representing government finance professionals throughout the United States and Canada. The organization provides best practices, professional development, resources and research to advance excellence in government finance.
